Divide Decimals and Whole Numbers

When dividing a decimal by a whole number, first place the decimal point in the quotient above the decimal point in the dividend

Divide as with whole numbers, bringing down the subsequent digits, until there are no digits left to divide

Use patterns when dividing by powers of 10; the number of zeros in the divisor tells how many places to the left the decimal point moves in the dividend

You can check your answer by multiplying the quotient and the divisor and adding the remainder to the product

When dividing whole numbers divide until you get a remainder

Place the decimal point in the dividend and the quotient. Add zeros to the dividend and continue dividing

Once the quotient has a digit in the hundredths place, round it to the nearest tenth
