  • We can use a model or a place-value chart to read and write decimals. The decimal point separates the ones from the tenths

  • A mixed number has a whole number part and a fraction part

  • Decimals that have 1 digit after the decimal point are “tenths”.
    For example, 0.3 is another way to write the fraction 3/10 (three tenths)

  • Decimals that have 2 digits after the decimal point are “hundredths”.
    For example, 0.56 is another way to write the fraction 56/100 (fifty-six hundredths)

  • Decimals that have 3 digits after the decimal point are “thousandths”.
    For example, 0.123 is another way to write the fraction 123/1,000 (123 thousandths)
