Tenths, Hundredths, and Thousandths

In this topic, we learn to read and write tenths and hundredths as decimals and fractions. We also understand the meaning of thousandths.

Topic: Tenths and Hundredths

  • Decimals that have 1 digit after the decimal point are “tenths”.
For example, 0.3 is another way to write the fraction 3/10 (three tenths)

  • Decimals that have 2 digits after the decimal point are “hundredths”.
For example, 0.52 is another way to write the fraction 52/100 (fifty-two hundredths)

  • Decimals that name the same number are called equivalent decimals. For example, 0.60 = 0.6

  • We read a decimal by reading the number and the place-value of the last digit at the right. For example, 0.4 is read as four tenths
