Decimal Place Value

In this topic, we learn to name the place occupied by each digit in a number. We also learn to determine the place value of each digit in a number.

Topic: Name of Place Occupied by Digit

  • Each digit in a decimal number has a place value depending on its position

  • To the right of the decimal point, first digit is said to be at tenths place.

    Similarly, second digit at hundredths place, third digit at thousandths place, fourth digit at ten-thousandths place and so on

  • To the left of the decimal point, first digit is said to be at ones place.
    Similarly, second digit at tens place, third digit at hundreds place, fourth digit at thousands place and so on
