Extending Perimeter, Circumference, and Area

This concept elaborates upon geometric measurement. We learn to develop formulas for perimeter, area and circumference of various figures. We also learn to compute such measurements for composite or irregular figures, and learn about area and perimeter on the coordinate plane. In addition, we learn how change in the dimensions of a figure affect area and perimeter.
The concept is broken into smaller topics, which makes it easier and much more fun for students. The topics are listed below:-
Composite Figures
In this topic, we learn to use the Area Addition Postulate to find the areas of composite figures. We also learn to use composite figures to estimate the areas of irregular shapes.
Developing Formulas - Circles and Regular Polygons
In this topic, we learn to develop and apply formulas for the area and circumference of a circle. We also learn to develop and apply the formula for the areas of regular polygons.
Developing Formulas - Triangles and Quadrilaterals
In this topic, we learn to develop and apply formulas for the areas of triangles and special quadrilaterals. We also learn to solve problems involving perimeter and areas of triangles and special quadrilaterals.
Effects of Proportional Changes in Dimensions
In this topic, we learn to describe the effect on perimeter and area when one or more dimensions of a figure are changed. We also learn to apply the relationship between perimeter and area in problem solving.
Perimeter and Area in the Coordinate Plane
In this topic, we learn to find the perimeter and areas of figures in a coordinate plane.
