Graphing Linear Equations and Slope of a Line

This topic covers the concept of graphing linear equations and finding the slope of a given line.

Topic: Graphing Equations

  • A linear equation is an equation whose solutions fall on a line on the coordinate plane

  • All solutions of a particular linear equation fall on the line

  • All the points on the line are solutions of the equation

  • A straight line shows that the equation is linear

  • A curved line shows that the equation is non-linear

Topic: Slope of a line

  • Linear Equations have constant slope

  • Slope =vertical change / horizontal change, or (y2 - y2) / (x2 - x1)

  • Slope can be positive, negative, zero, or undefined

  • The slope of a horizontal line is always zero

  • The slope of a vertical line is always undefined
