Graphing Functions

This topic covers the representation of linear functions using ordered pairs and graphs.

Topic: Graph Linear Equations

  • To find solutions of an equation with two variables, substitute some values of one variable and find the corresponding values for the other

  • When the ordered pairs of some functions are graphed, they form a straight line. These straight lines are called linear functions

  • To plot a linear function, plot the ordered pairs on the graph and join them to form a line

  • To read the value of y for a given value of x from the graph, move up from the value of x on x axis. From the point where you intersect the graph, move left/right to the y axis and note the value of y

Topic: Solutions of Equations

  • An ordered pair is a solution to an equation if the values of x and y from the ordered pair satisfy the equation

  • Substitute the x-y values into the equation. If both sides are equal, the equation is satisfied

  • To find a missing y value, substitute the value of x into the equation and vice-versa
