  • A number raised to a negative exponent equals 1 divided by that number raised to the opposite (positive) exponent. For example: 4-3 = 1/43 = 1/64

  • Raising a number to a positive exponent is same as raising the reciprocal of that number to the negative exponent. For example: 22 = 1/2-2
