Tables and Functions

This topic explains how to use data in a table to write an equation for a function, and also, how to use the equation to find missing values.

Topic: Write Equations from Function Tables

  • A function is a rule that relates two quantities.

    For example: y = 20x
Here x is known as the input and y is known as the output

  • Each input value corresponds to exactly one output value

  • To find a function that relates two variables, compare the two variables to identify a pattern and use the pattern to write an equation

  • To find the missing values, use the function

Topic: Translate Words into Math

  • A function is a rule that relates two quantities.

    For example: y = 20x.
x is known as the input and y is known as the output

  • To write an equation for a function first choose the variables for the equation and then write the equation

  • Make a table and use values to relate the data if required
