Multiply and Divide Integers

This topic covers multiplication and division of integers.

Topic: Multiply Integers

  • When we multiply two integers having different signs, the result will be a negative integer
    Or,
    - a x b = - c or
    a x - b = - c

  • When we multiply two integers having the same sign, the result will be a positive integer

    Or,
    a x b = c or
    - a x - b = c

  • Product of any integer and zero is zero.

    or, a x 0 = 0 , where 'a' is any integer

Topic: Divide Integers

  • In x ÷ y = z,
    x is called the dividend,
y is called the divisor, and
    z is called the quotient

  • When we divide two integers having different signs, the quotient will have a negative sign.
    Or,
    - a ÷ b = - c or
    a ÷ - b = - c

  • When we divide two integers having the same sign, the quotient will have a positive sign.
    Or,
    a ÷ b = c or
    - a ÷ - b = c

  • Zero divide by any integer equals 0
    Or, 0/a = 0 (where 'a' is any integer)
