Missing Factors

In this topic, we learn to find the missing factors. We also learn to use a fact family.

Topic: Find Missing Factors

  • We can use division or multiplication to find missing numbers

  • We can use a related multiplication fact to divide two numbers. For example, to find 32 ÷ 8, we can use 4 x 8 = 32 as the related multiplication fact

Topic: Use a Fact Family

  • We can use a fact family to divide two numbers

  • Multiplication and division are inverse operations. One is the opposite of the other

  • The Commutative Property of Multiplication says that the order of factors does not affect the product. For example: 4 x 6 = 24, and 6 x 4 = 24

  • Some fact families are:
    a) 2 x 4 = 8; 4 x 2 = 8; 8 ÷ 4 = 2; 8 ÷ 2 = 4
    b) 3 x 3 = 9; 9 ÷ 3 = 3
    c) 9 x 1 = 9; 1 x 9 = 9; 9 ÷ 1 = 9; 9 ÷ 9 = 1
