Division - Fractions and Mixed Numbers

In this topic, we will learn to find the reciprocal of a number. We will also learn to divide fractions and mixed numbers by using reciprocals.

Topic: Divide Fractions and Mixed Numbers

  • Dividing by a number is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal. For example,
    (3/4)/(1/2) = (3/4) x (2/1)

  • To simplify, cancel the common factors
    For example,
    (3/4) x (2/1) = (3/2) x (1/1)

  • To write a fraction in the simplest form, cancel the common factors
