Count, Compare, and Order Numbers and Money

In this topic, we learn to compare and order numbers and money using number lines and place value charts.

Topic: Compare Numbers and Money

  • When comparing two numbers, mark the numbers on a number line. The magnitude of numbers increases as we go along the number line towards the right. The smaller number comes before the greater number

  • When comparing money, compare digits in corresponding places. Start from the most significant place value and move to the right, until two we get unequal digits

  • The amount with the greater digit is greater in value

Topic: Order Numbers and Money

  • Represent the numbers on a number line. Read the numbers from the number line from left to right and that gives the order from least to greatest

  • Represent numbers to be ordered on a place value chart, and compare digits with highest place values. The number with the greatest digit is also the greatest

  • Repeat the same for the lower place values until all numbers are in order

  • To order money, compare the highest place value digit of all amounts. The digit with the smallest digit is the smallest

  • Repeat the same for the lower place values until all the amounts have been ordered
