Place Value through Hundred Thousands

In this topic, we will learn to identify the place value of a number through hundred thousands and solve application problems.

  • A place-value chart shows the place value of the digit in a number

  • The first digit from the right has a place value ones, second has tens, and so on

  • To find the value of a digit, replace the 1 in the standard notation with the digit

  • Standard form is a way of writing a number that shows only its digits

  • The expanded form is the sum of the value of each digit of the number

  • To change the form of a number, use a place value chart

  • The value of a digit in a number is written by replacing the 1 in the standard notation by the digit

Topic: Problems on Place Value

  • To write a number that is 1,000 more than a number, add one to the digit in the one thousands place. For example: 1,000 more than 2,987 is 3,987

  • To write a number that is 1,000 less than a number, subtract one from the digit in the one thousands place. For example: 1,000 less than 12,876 is 11,876
