Calendars and Time Lines

In this topic, we learn to read and use calendars and time lines.

Topic: Identify Days and Dates

  • The ordinal numbers in a column represents the dates for that day of the month. For example, the number in the Monday column represents the dates on every Monday in the month

  • The ordinal numbers for a month represents order or position. To find the day when a date is given, find the date on the calendar. The column in which the number lies gives the day

Topic: Difference Between Dates

  • To find the number of days from September 24 to October 11, count the number of days between the two dates

  • To convert days to weeks, subtract 7 from the number of days and compare

  • Keep subtracting until the number of days is less than 7

  • The number of times subtracted gives the number of complete weeks

  • For example, 17 days has 2 weeks and 3 days

Topic: Time Lines

  • A time line is used to represent a series of events in the sequence of their occurrence on a line, with the dates when each occurred

  • To find when an event occurred on a time line, read the line from left to right

  • The event occurs at the time shown by the arrow on the time lines
