Divide by 6 and 7

In this topic, we learn to divide by 6 and 7.

Topic: Divide Using Models and Related Multiplication Facts

  • You can divide by 6 and 7 using models

  • For example, to divide 24 by 6 using models, use 24 counters and make an array of 6 equal rows. Count the number of counters in each row. The number of counters in each row represents 24 ÷ 6

  • You can divide by 7 using models in the same way

  • Number of groups x Number in each group = Number in all

  • Number in all ÷ Number of groups = Number in each group

Topic: Divide Using Skip Counting and Repeated Subtraction

  • Skip counting method can be used to find division by 6 and 7

  • To divide by 7 using skip counting, skip count backwards by 7 until you reach 0

  • For example, to divide 21 by 7, start at 21 and skip count backwards by 7 until you reach 0. The number of jumps represents 21 ÷ 7

  • To divide by 6 using skip counting, skip count backwards by 6 until you reach 0

  • Use repeated subtraction to divide by 6 and 7. For example, to divide 12 by 6, start at 12 and subtract 6 from 12 until you reach 0. The number of times you subtract represents 12 ÷ 6

Topic: Divide Using Related Facts of 3 and 2

  • You can use division facts of 3 and 2 to divide by 6

  • If you divide a number by 3, and then by 2, that is the same as dividing by 6

  • For example, to divide 24 by 6, first divide by 3; 24 ÷ 3 = 8

  • Now divide 8 by 2; 8 ÷ 2 = 4, so 24 ÷ 6 = 4
