Fact Families

In this topic, we learn to develop fact families and use them to find missing factor.

Topic: Fact Families

  • A fact family shows how multiplication and division are related

  • For example, the fact family of the numbers 3, 6, and 18 is:
    3 x 6 = 18; 6 x 3 = 18; 18 ÷ 3 = 6; 18 ÷ 6 = 3

  • A fact triangle represents numbers that can be used to write a fact family

  • The number at the top of fact triangle is usually the product of the factors at the base.

  • The operators to be used for writing the fact family are shown in the middle of the triangle. Related multiplication/division facts can be used to complete a fact triangle
